10 Creative Play Ideas for Practicing Positive Parenting

Creative play is such an important part of children’s development. Creative play also offers wonderful opportunities for parents and children to practice interacting and connect in really positive ways:

Parents and children while engaging in creative play can practice:

*working together (setting up, cleaning up)
*respecting each other’s creativity & thought processes (allowing children creative freedom)
*navigating conflicts  (staying calm when paint goes flying!)
*autonomy (sorting, reaching, passing, measuring supplies)
*positive communication (listening, acknowledging, encouraging, appreciating)
*setting and respecting limits (paint on the walls vs painting on the paper…)

With this in mind, I have gathered here 10 awesome creative play ideas from fantastic creative play resources from around the web to do with toddlers, preschoolers and school aged children to practice positive parenting and have loads of fun!

  • My parenting website is not about play activity, but I could offer the idea about children’s creativity. The nature offers opportunities for creativity: gather plants leaves in autumn to create “roses.” Or, look for the wood sticks, which remind an animal, or an old man…

I also would like to mention that creative play ideas are especially important for collective play, when children learn to play together, to respect rules and to develop friendship.
